White Album Project
20. September 2019 @ 17:00 – 19:00
Tube Station Bonn Hbf – Exit Thomas-Mann-Straße
The Beatles‘ White Album was released in autumn 1968, now 50 years ago. It contains an extraordinary variety of styles and is therefore considered to be one of the most important works of the band. Meanwhile it has acheived cultic status in the Beat and Rock Music of its time.
The double album comprises 30 songs and with its purely white cover it represents an interesting counterpoint to the multicoloured expressions of the Hippie era. Stilistically, it offers everything from lyric guitar pop to solid rock and even psychedelic assembling of sounds – the latter having the potential to nourish conspiracy theories even today. Some songs of the album have acheived such publicity that they have become standards, whereas others are rarely heard but still possess astonishing musical potential.
Inspired by this diversity, five professional musicians from Bonn have come together and have created a special musical project in order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the White Album, their musical biographies being at least as diverse as the music of the album. The music that emerged from this cooperation is neither a „best-of“ selection nor an exact cover of the songs, but presents the complete works of the album in an entirely new light. A fondness for Jazz with its unexpected sounds and always varying melodies conjoins the musicians with each other, but a variety of other musical styles are also represented in their adaptations of the songs. The Beatles‘ eagerness for innovation and their enjoyment of experimenting reflect the spirit of the musical era of the 60ies and also form the spirit of the music of „The White Album Project“.
